About

I am interested in the description of the various domains of the human social world, and the value phenomena therein. My work is influenced by the Austro-German philosophical tradition, including thinkers such as Brentano, Meinong, Ehrenfels, Husserl, Reinach, and Stein. I also draw from the contributions of their economist counterparts, especially Menger and Hayek.

My current research in ethics pertains to affective phenomena, especially empathy in the tradition of Edith Stein, and the neurological evidence (such as mirror neurons) for such phenomena and the understanding of moral value. My work in neuroethics has also shed light on examination of Hayek's Sensory Order, especially the role of intersubjectivity in the mechanics of brain development.

Additionally, I am interested in the geography of different understandings of responsibility, from corporate social responsibility, social capital, to the framework of commutative and distribute justice in Catholic social thought.

I am also developing an ontology of documents as a new basis for considering practical problems in ethics at the borderlines with public policy, engineering, and Internet technology.

I shall be organizing a conference in Austrian Through for the Fall semester 2012 at The University of Texas in Arlington. In addition, I shall be conducting investigations in neurophenomenology and ethics via the examination of Edith Stein's notion of empathy and Husserl's notion of ethics and renewal in his Kaizo articles.
